Welcome to the Direction for Dyslexia Blog
I’m Rebecca Sanford, a mom to a brilliant dyslexic thinker and the founder of Direction for Dyslexia, a Coaching and Education service created to support people with dyslexia and the loved ones who walk beside them.
When my daughter was young and struggling to read, I remember the sleepless nights, the searching for answers, and the helpless ache of watching her try so hard and still feel left behind. My heart broke more times than I can count.
As a doctoral-level educator whose dissertation focused on dyslexia, I saw struggling students and witnessed their frustrations, embarrassment, and shame in the classroom. I understand the deep emotional impact and complex academic challenges dyslexia can bring. I held those parents’ hands and told them there was hope, even when it didn’t feel like it.
Those twin roles, parent and educator, taught me how deeply dyslexia affects emotions, family life, and learning. I started Direction for Dyslexia to bring clarity, compassion, and practical guidance to that journey. I want families to feel seen, students to feel capable, and to gain hope of a promising future ahead of them.
This blog is one way I show up: hopeful and helpful. You’ll find encouragement, practical tips, and bite-sized guidance to move forward with confidence. You are not alone. I’ve walked this path, and I’ve chosen to walk with you, because I’ve seen the struggle and I’ve celebrated the successes. My child is now a thriving, successful adult, and former students are doing the same. There is a hopeful path forward, and I’m here to help you find it.
